Who we are...

The Edge of the Wedge family

Edge of the Wedge is a family-run sharpening shop on Mercer Island, started in 2021 as a sabbatical project and now run by the kids. We get your knives sharper than they have ever been.

Clara

Clara is 13 and in the 8th grade. She's recently taken over the business as a way to save for her first car when she turns 16. She handles sharpening, customer communication, and might even start doing some marketing.

Clara also lives with Type 1 diabetes and serves as a Youth Ambassador for the Greater Northwest Chapter of Breakthrough T1D. We donate 5% of proceeds to Breakthrough T1D to support research and local programs for a cure.

Dash

Dash is 16 and entering 11th grade. He helped build Edge of the Wedge from the early days, and he recently reached a big milestone: buying his first car with the profits from running the business. He's “rolled off” day-to-day duties but is on call when things get busy.

Eric

He has spent the majority of his career in the digital world, but likes working with his hands in the kitchen and the workshop. These days he mostly handles behind-the-scenes stuff for Edge of the Wedge, but will field calls when the kids are at school and jumps in to sharpen tricky blades. Mostly, he loves the chance to do something entrepreneurial with the kids.
